AV1 is the first audiovisual compilation published by Tensa Records. This work brings together 33 musicians and 33 visualists from different parts of the world: Chile, Colombia, Argentina, Brazil, Peru, Russia, Japan, USA, Venezuela, Canada and France. The compilation was released on Monday, December 7 and is available at Youtube. We talked about this beautiful result and a bit of the history of the label together with its manager, René Rocco.
Tensa Records is a Chilean label created at the beginning of 2019, originally formed to show and register local artists who constantly performed at parties in Santiago de Chile. Today, Tensa Records is a label open to musicians from around the world and to all styles of electronic music.
“All the artists that have been published from the beginning are people who gave themselves completely to music at that time, and they continue to do so, and I think that for a music label there is nothing more rewarding than having been part of the path of an artist. I also think it’s important to always keep in touch, in the end a label can also be the excuse to unite artists and create ties, a label can be the excuse for everything too; Party? Seal party, let’s meet? Seal board, let’ss make music? Compiled from the label, do you like those socks? Socks from the label, that’s why I also think that putting together Tensa Records was a very good excuse for many other things to happen ”. He tells us René Rocco.
“We are already on our way to completing the first 2 years, and continuing Tensa I also see it as a responsibility, because in the end there are already several artists who trust the work you do as a label and that is something that should be cultivated over the years, like any relationship, and I think from the artists point of view it should also be nice to see that the label they trusted for whatever reason, remains active and doing things and is not just a profile on Bandcamp”.
In AV1 You will find the result of the sound and visual work of pairs of artists whose relationship is not mostly direct, even many of them did not know each other. For this reason, the theme is very open, since the artists in the image were commissioned to make a clip of a 2-minute track, without any reference to style, visual treatment or pre-established script, so the result works as a total piece, a feature film that flows with the criteria of chance, since the order of the clips also obeys a strict alphabetical factor.
René tells us. “In quarantine I observed that many labels began to publish compilations, and it was quite logical, it is a context where you simply cannot play anymore, the exposure that you could have of your music is reduced and above all you can no longer transmit it in person, so so much it becomes a little more difficult to connect with people. That is why I also decided to create a compilation of Tensa, to help it follow the movement, however and however possible. I wanted to think about a compilation from another point of view, a label in the end is not only music, it is art in general, it logically involves musicians, but also designers, visualists and any other artistic discipline that you want to include. From that point of view, it was logical to create an audiovisual compilation and leave the format where musicians are simply summoned, they send and the compilation is released. An audiovisual compilation is a perfect excuse to make visual artists and musicians talk about what they are creating, also so that they get to know each other and perhaps it is the origin of other things that happen, that is why I summoned artists from different parts of the world, to enter let’s all end up creating something together, with different searches, concepts, colors, sounds, impressions ”.
“The compilation was formed first by summoning musicians, the invitation was to create a 2-minute track completely free, without following styles and for them to do whatever they wanted, but they had 2 minutes. There are musicians from different musical scenes, all related to electronic music but with very different sounds. When the first tracks began to arrive I began to contact visual artists. They are also from different parts and have different experiences, to each one I proposed this compilation idea and once they accepted I began to put together the visualist / musicians pairs. It was very interesting to put together the pairs or think about who could work well together, complement or contrast, and create an audiovisual story from that combination, the visualists had complete freedom to interpret the music ”.
