South Plug “Referentes” at 13c
An Audiovisual Archive of the Underground Electronic Scene in Chile
Between 2018 and 2020, South Plug produced “Referentes“, a documentary series that records the history and impact of various artists and collectives within Chile’s underground electronic scene. This material serves as a biographical archive aimed at increasing the visibility of the scene and highlighting its cultural value.
The documentary emerges in a context where the national electronic music scene has evolved significantly, with artists gaining international recognition and spaces that have become gathering points for a growing community. Through this work, South Plug seeks not only to document this phenomenon but also to contribute to greater representation of the local scene.
Now, with a new edit and re-edited version, “Referentes” will be part of 13c’s programming.

"Referentes" featuring:
Y más!
As said by Juan de Dios Valdivieso, director and producer of the project, “Referentes” responds to the need to document and give value to what has happened in the scene in recent years:
“Recording the history of each artist, the context in which they create and evolve, is a way to strengthen the identity and collective memory of electronic music.”
This work has not only provided visibility to artists and projects but has also created new opportunities for collaboration among them, further strengthening the scene as a whole.
Each of these names represents different approaches within electronic music, ranging from sonic experimentation and ambient to techno and fusion with other genres, shaping a diverse landscape that reflects the variety within the Chilean scene. The fact that this material has made its way into 13c’s open programming is a significant achievement for the scene, demonstrating how it has become more visible and increasingly accepted by the general public.
