Planisferios Sonoros is a compilation project made in Peru directed by Daniela Cuenca, visual artist and Frank Serin, dj and producer, founder of Moray Discs.
The project is a means of artistic collaboration and interaction that seeks to transmit music made in latam, where the perception of the environment we live in can be reflected.
The idea was born in the middle of last year (2020), when we were in full quarantine, I, Frank, was living in Mexico at that time. In the first instance, I was thinking of doing a small release, but when I presented the idea to Daniela Cuenca, another perspective began to be given. At the beginning of this year the project began to take shape and gained more strength given the entire health situation we are experiencing.
Sound Planispheres is a link to connect emerging Latin American artists through a compilation project where we bring together artists from different parts of Latin America, in such a way that there can be a record of the hard work that has been done within our scene.
The artistic work in Peru has always been very complicated, either due to the lack of interest of our own governments to promote it or because of the simple fact that we are not aware of how important it is for our society, we believe that something very happens in Latam. similar and with the times we live in this has complicated things much more. As a project we seek to contribute and promote the culture of electronic music to try to generate alternative ecosystems and be able to promote ourselves in an autonomous way.
Our vision is that this project can embrace the different perspectives, ideas, opinions about our scene in Latin America, in such a way that it can serve as a means of collaboration and artistic interaction where we can reflect what we live in our environment, the importance of being able to value local electronic music. The project seeks to put Latin America at the center, from electronic music, embracing collaboration and the possibility of valuing and reinforcing the link with the sound source and its context.
Within our first delivery, through the label Moray Discs We decided to invite multiple artists who have been doing incredible work within our electronic scene. After several weeks we received the material, and we started with the project.
This first release is made up of six artists from different parts of Latin America, from the south Qasio a Chilean artist with a deep love for analog machines delivers “Saft” with rough textures, dark synths, and drum beats that keep us floating.
Crossing Patagonia we headed to Buenos Aires, Argentina to meet Mati Mielniczuk who presents “Sueño Espectro” with the use of some synths and classic rhythm machines managed to capture sounds with an Electro vibe with melodies that make us travel in a lucid dream.
We leave the beautiful Argentina and we go a little into the mountains of Colombia and we meet Junn who gives us “Luz de Luna” in the pure style of breaks, synthesizers and pads that take us to a nostalgic point on the dance floor.
In another part of Colombia, from Barranquilla to be exact, we received Inteligencia Pesimista who captured 9 minutes of euphoria on his track called “Veneno (fals9 mix)” with influences from EBM, Techno and IDM.
Trópico Frío, Venezuela, bring us “Interstellar Favela” that from the first moment when listening to that line of acid, drums and synths transports us towards Electro with five minutes of pure energy.
Closing with a flourish Niño Árbol from Mexico, who for some years has been doing an impeccable job in each of his productions, “Incertidumbre” is named after this work made by the Mexican artist.
Planisferios Sonoros seeks to transmit the diversity of electronic music that we can find in our environment, surrounded by mountains, valleys and mountain ranges, with a particular vision of electronic music. We are excited to have started with this path which will help us to reflect within this Planisphere our perception of the environment we live in.
