Vinicius Honorio terget: blank_, musician and producer from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Responsible for many releases by local artists and owner of a diverse repertoire of his own, always close to techno, taking it to important dates and residencies in different countries, to later launch his own techno label called “Liberta Records”.
As I have been living in Europe for 14 years, in London, England for the last 6 years, I only visit Brazil around 1 or 2 times a year. I may not be so aware of what is happening on the national scene, but what I can guarantee is that the level of talent in national techno continues to grow. Even though I don’t live there, I have frequent contact with several Brazilian producers.
If you talk about techno coming from Brazil and not talking about Marcal, who is launching a lot of good music, it would be a crime. He comes from Goiania, a city in the state of Goias, famous for country music. His songs are on my sets, I had the pleasure of releasing his EP on my record label Liberta Records, last year. Name “Liberta” is derived from the Portuguese slang for Brazil, which means the beginning of something or freedom, that you want to portray with the music that is released on your label.
Coming from the city of Sao Paulo and who lives in Berlin, Allan Feytor is one of my favorite producers and is also an artist from Liberta.
Viniendo de la ciudad de Sao Paulo y viviendo en Berlín, Allan Feytor es uno de mis productores favoritos y también es un artista de Liberta Records
Also in Sao Paulo, there is K.A.L.I.L. who also launched in Liberta, Osclighter, AndersBR and, already more focused on training future producers not only in techno, but in various genres of electronic music, has Andre Salata.
Going further south of Brazil, I met Andc and Bervon, two promising names from the techno circuit in Parana.
I try to keep an eye on national techno and I have several artists on my label and I’m very proud of it. Liberta’s most recent release has just come out, and an EP with 3 collaborations from me. One with Andre Salata, one with Finnish Orion and the third with Scots Duncan Macdonald.
My sound has evolved a lot and in relation to my future releases, there is a lot of interesting things to come out this year. There’s a track coming soon at Symbolism, the legend label and one of my heroes, Ben Sims. I think it will be out in June. I also have tracks to be released by Ricardo Garduno’s Illegal Alien. I was very happy when Ricardo sent me a message asking if I would like to have lunch with him.
In addition to my techno project like ‘Vinicius Honorio’, I keep busy with my other alias, ‘BTK’. It is a drum & bass project that I have been lovingly cultivating for almost 20 years and are doing very well. I released my third album last year on Dispatch Recordings, Ant TC1’s record label and has more music for this year on Dispatch and also on my drum & bass label, Dutty Audio.
In all these years as a producer and DJ, music has always brought me satisfaction, great friends and unforgettable moments. Even with everything that has been hanging over our lives since the beginning of the pandemic, music helps me a lot as part of my personal therapy against any kind of depression and sadness. May 2021 be a better year for all of us and may this second season of 2020 be a memory of the past.
Vinicius Honorio & Duncan Macdonald – Echo Chamber
I met Duncan in 2019 (twice that year) at Berghain in Berlin during one of the legendary closing sets of a mutual friend of ours, Fiedel. Killa, another mutual friend, introduced us to the bar I think, and lots of shots of tequila later we became friends. We didn’t really talk much about any music production that morning, but we kept in touch, exchanged ideas and wrote a good amount of beats together. “Echo Chamber” is one of our favorites, where we try to capture that dark vibe from night we met.
